What Makes a Good Google Ads Landing Page (H1)?

The points below will help improve the page ranking but the aim is to create a page that is valuable and helpful to the visitor but also relevant to a keyword.

Keyword = Types of Dementia

  • Long-tail keywords can provide better returns. Some say 30% of search traffic is from queries 1-4 words long, 40% is 4-8 words long and 30% is 8+ words. The level of competition for each keyword is lower as the length of the query increases.

  • Use the keyword in your URL. e.g www.website.org/dementia/types-of-dementia

  • Use the keyword in the page title (H1).

  • Use keyword in body of text. Focus on 1 keyword as your article main theme, then include 2-4 other keywords that are relevant to spread your reach without diluting the content.

  • Page should contain a minimum of 1000 words of unique content that provides value to potential visitors.

  • Make the page easy to read by breaking up the text with H2 subtitles that consist of supporting keywords e.g if the page title is “Types of Dementia” the subtitles could be; what causes dementia, common types of dementia, Frontotemporal dementia, Alzheimer's disease.

  • Use internal & external hyperlinks to jump to relevant sections of the page, other pages on the website or external websites that are an authority on the topic. Avoid more than 50 links in total.

  • Hyperlinks should be anchor text. e.g do not hyperlink terms like click here or find out more. Links should be the keyword which is most relevant to the place you are directing the user to.

  • Use keywords in the meta description. Meta descriptions are information that appears in the search results and helps a user decide whether to click.

  • Rename image file names (alt) to reflect keyword.

  • Run your finished piece through Hemingway Editor - this isn’t foolproof but gives you a good guide on your style and the level of reading required. As a rule Grade 4/5 is a readable piece of writing by the majority of those online.
